Sculpture, found materials

Debs Wrekon makes large-scale sculpture from scrap metal, recycled plastics and reclaimed kitchenware, transforming discarded industrial and domestic materials into figures that are simultaneously satirical and formidable. Does My Bum Look Big… (Culona), first conceived as a sentinel, became a work about body scrutiny when its "oversized" backside was judged unsuitable — a verdict applied to an inanimate figure that exposes the absurdity of how women's bodies are policed. Her second work for Gritted Teeth, Revenge is a Dish… (Boudicca), is built entirely from recycled kitchenalia — the tools of domestic expectation repurposed as armour and anatomy. She is a warrior assembled from the objects that once confined women's labour, standing against an outdated patriarchy with cold, unflinching resolve.
