Clare Barstow

Clare Barstow makes paintings that are direct acts of solidarity. Rebel, her work for Gritted Teeth, is a celebration of every woman who has dared to raise her head above the parapet in a patriarchal society — an acknowledgement of the courage required to be counted, and to remain visible in the face of systems designed to make women small. Barstow's painting carries the energy of that defiance without flinching from it.
