Alaina Cherry

Alaina Cherry works in oil on canvas, making large-scale figurative paintings that examine the interior life of women's bodies and self-perception. Her work for Gritted Teeth centres on the experience of trying on clothes — the fitting room as a site of reckoning, confidence, dread and embrace. In The Dance, Cherry maps the cycle of feelings that arises when a woman's body meets fabric that was never designed for her: the battle, the moment of doubt, and the possibility of arrival. Her second work, Nexus Event, approaches vulnerability differently — the internal conflict between concealing and revealing wounds in conditions that demand perfection.
